Gratitude for Food
Another powerful way to use gratitude in relation to your health is to give thanks for the food that you put into your body.
Giving thanks for food before you eat is a tradition that has been followed for thousands of years, dating back to the ancient Egyptians, who believed that when they blessed their food and water with gratitude it purified whatever they were blessing.
With the fast pace of life in the twenty-first century, taking the time to give thanks for a meal has more often than not been left behind. But when you look at the theories and discoveries that quantum physics has made in recent times, such as the observer effect, the ancient Egyptians may very well have been right. The observer effect in quantum physics refers to changes that the act of observation makes in whatever is being observed. Imagine if focusing gratitude on your food and drinks changed their energy structure, and purified them so that everything you consumed had the ultimate effect of well-being in your body? Well, this is exactly what happens when you bless your foodâyou change the structure of the food and its effect on your body. Blessing water with love and gratitude does the same thing.
You need food to live, to think, to feel good, and to maintain your health, and so there is a great deal to be grateful for about food.
Before you eat or drink anything today, whether youâre about to eat a meal, a piece of fruit, a snack, or have a drink of anything, including water, take a moment to look at what youâre about to eat or drink, and in your mind or out loud say the words, âThank you!â Really feel the love and gratitude. Also, make sure your conversations are positive when you are sitting down to a meal. And if you can, take at least one mouthful really savoring your food; it will not only increase your enjoyment of it, it will also increase your health and well-being.
A woman wrote to me describing her struggle in being considerably overweight. Despite strict dieting and working out in the gym every day, she had not managed to shed a single pound. Thatâs when she decided to try something new. She began to eat more consciously. She would bless her food before she took a bite; she would savor it, and she would pray that it nourished her body. The effect was almost instant. She stopped craving food and obsessing over food, and she worried less about what was healthy and what could make her put on weight. She simply ate what she wanted when she wanted. She wrote up a list of all the things she was grateful for, and she also expressed gratitude for all the things she would be able to do once she reached her target weight. This included fitting into her dream wedding gown. Within a month she managed to lose more than a third of her body weight and was well on her way to her ideal size.
